Introduction
Socket Fusion Welding Machine is a welding tool specially used to connect thermoplastic plastic pipes and fittings. It heats the socket parts of the pipe and fittings to melt their surfaces and then combine to achieve a firm hot-melt connection. Due to its reliable connection and good sealing performance, it is widely used in water supply and drainage, HVAC, agricultural irrigation and industrial pipeline systems.
Principles of Socket Fusion Welding
The core principle of socket fusion welding is to use a heating tool to heat the socket parts of the pipe and fittings at the same time, so that the two can quickly plug together after reaching the melting temperature of the plastic to form an overall seamless connection. The main steps include:
Heating
The heating plate or heating sleeve of the machine is heated to a specific temperature, usually 230°C to 260°C, and the temperature depends on the plastic material (such as PP-R, PE, PVC). During the heating process, the end of the pipe and the socket of the fitting contact the heating surface respectively, and are evenly heated at the same time, and the surface plastic begins to soften.
Joining
After heating for a predetermined time, the operator quickly inserts the softened pipe into the socket of the pipe fitting, applying appropriate pressure to ensure close contact between the two. Since both sides are molten, the plastic molecules fuse with each other when cooled after insertion, achieving a seamless connection as a whole.
Cooling
The pipe fittings after insertion need to be left to stand for a period of time to allow the molten plastic to cool and harden, forming a very strong connection. The cooling time depends on the diameter of the pipe and the material properties, usually ranging from 15 to 60 seconds.
Components of a Socket Fusion Welding Machine
Heating Plate / Heating Tool
Provides a constant temperature heating surface to ensure uniform heating of the plastic. Different sizes of heating molds are equipped for different pipe diameters.
Temperature Control and Thermostat
Precisely control the heating temperature to avoid overheating or underheating, and ensure welding quality and efficiency.
Fixture or Clamping Device
Some models are equipped with fixtures to facilitate the fixing of pipe fittings during operation and improve connection accuracy.
Timer and Indicator Lights
The timer helps control the heating and cooling time, and the indicator light shows the working status.
Applications of Socket Fusion Welding Machines
Residential and Commercial Plumbing
Widely used in the hot and cold water transportation system of thermoplastic pipes, such as the hot melt connection of PP-R pipes, because it is corrosion-resistant and leak-free, it meets the needs of modern buildings.
Irrigation Systems
PE or PP pipes are used for water pipe connection in agricultural irrigation systems. Socket welding ensures the integrity and pressure resistance of the pipes and reduces maintenance.
Industrial Piping
When corrosion-resistant plastic pipes are used in chemical, pharmaceutical and other industries, socket welding technology is used to ensure the sealing and safety of the pipelines.
Gas Distribution
Some plastic gas pipes can also use socket welding to ensure a firm connection and no leakage, ensuring the safety of gas transportation.
Advantages of Socket Fusion Welding
Strong and Leak-proof Joint
Due to the fusion of two plastic parts, the mechanical properties and pressure resistance of the weld are equivalent to or even better than those of the pipe body.
No Additional Chemicals or Materials
The welding process relies only on heat energy, without the use of glue or solvents, thus avoiding chemical residues and pollution.
Simple and Portable Operation
The equipment is designed for on-site construction, with fast operation and time-saving construction.
Cost-effective and Durable
Reduce maintenance costs, extend the service life of pipelines, and reduce long-term investment.
